Ericsson expects the mobile network market to continue to boom

In the second quarter the network equipment supplier Ericsson was able to boost its earnings significantly. In quarter-on-quarter terms earnings before interest grew by 12 percent to 9.3 billion Swedish kronor (1.014 billion euros). Sales went up by 8 percent to 47.6 billion kronor (5.194 billion euros), with net earnings rising by 12 percent from 5.7 billion to 6.4 billion kronor (699 million euros). “We continue to outpace the market,” Carl-Henric Svanberg, President and CEO of Ericsson, said. Be that as it may, the stock markets had expected the company to perform better. Like its rivals Ericsson is profiting from the growing demand for telecommunications infrastructure; with demand in the mobile networks area

especially strong.

When compared with the same period of the year before sales of Sony Ericsson’s network segment rose 7 percent to 33.7 billion kronor (3.677 billion euros); mobile systems accounted for 6 percent of the q-on-q increase in total sales of 8 percent. On Wednesday the company had managed to secure a record order worth two billion US dollars from the Indian mobile operator Bharti.

Sony Ericsson posts big jumps in revenue, profit and unit volumes

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications grew by between one-third and one-half in the three key metrics for the second quarter, posting huge jumps in revenue, profit and volume shipments.

The results may well confound analysts who have wondered whether the joint venture could sustain its recent, remarkable growth.

Sony Ericsson said second-quarter revenue reached $4.3 billion, a 37% increase from $3.1 billion in the year-ago quarter. Net income in the second quarter reached $303 million, a 54% jump from $197 million a year ago. Volume shipments surged to nearly 25 million units in the second quarter, a nearly 60% jump over the 15.7 million shipped in the second quarter of 2006.

Sony Ericsson’s 2Q financial results

Sony Ericsson reported financial results of 2Q 2007 ended June 30. Products shipped reached 24.9 million, a 59% rise compared to the same period last year. Income before tax in 2Q made up €327 million, a year on year rise of 55%.

According to the company, Walkman phone sales reached 9 million units, keeping the leadership in music phones. At the same time Sony Ericsson continued to capture market share in Latin America, Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa due to sales of low and mid-range handsets. In the 2Q the company increased its market share on the mobile phone market over 9%.

Sony Ericsson W960i: meet the updated W950

Along with other new handsets rolled out by Sony Ericsson today, there is the W960, a music-driven phone basing off UIQ and coming from the Walkman range. This handset is in fact an upgrade of the previous version going by the name W950i, which has had its design slightly revamped, Wi-Fi connectivity added, as well as a 3,2 Mpix autofocus-enabled camera; moreover, the storage space has doubled since the predecessor, so now there is 8 Gb to fill with tunes. Other changes include Walkman Player 3.0.

Sony Ericsson K850i – new imaging flagship

Here it is, right among the recently introduced models by Sony Ericsson - the new top offering for the company’s imaging line-up also known as CyberShot, the K850i. This candybar phone boasts a 5 Mpix autofocus-enabled camera, Bluetooth wireless connectivity and three bands of 3G networks, as well as HSDPA for faster data in addition to the four-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE. Music fans will get access both to the built-in media player and Memory Stick Micro / microSD cards for storing tunes, an the FM-radio.

Sony Ericsson K530 – slim and 3G

Another novelty showcased by Sony Ericsson today was the candybar-styled K530 with 3G connectivity. Apart from that, it is the first phone to support their another latest and greatest solution - GPS-module HGE-100, more on which later.
